Is CO2 Extract soluble in oil ?
Most supercritical extracts are oil-soluble. For instance, cosmetic extracts (such as sea buckthorn, rosehip, and carrot) are oils themselves and can be easily mixed into the oil phase of the formula. Spice extracts (such as jasmine and osmanthus) contain essential oils and volatile compounds, which are also soluble in oil.
Can CO2 Extract be used in emulsions?
Yes, absolutely. Carbon dioxide extract is an ideal active ingredient for water-in-oil (O/W) and oil-in-water (W/O) emulsions. We usually recommend adding 0.5% to 5.0% of the extract to the emulsion to achieve the expected effect without affecting the stability or texture of the final product.
How compatible is CO2 Extract with alcohol systems?
This mainly depends on the concentration of the alcohol: generally speaking, with ethanol (alcohol) : partially or completely soluble in high-concentration ethanol (for example, 96% ethanol). Therefore, they are suitable for perfume bases, body sprays and toners with high alcohol content. However, with water-alcohol systems (such as 30% to 50% alcohols) : Poor compatibility. Most carbon dioxide extracts will become turbid or precipitate in low-alcohol water systems because oil is insoluble in water and the alcohol concentration is not high enough to dissolve it. Tips for products with high water content: If you want to use carbon dioxide extract in water-based gels or low-alcohol toners, you need to use a solubilizer (for example, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil) or a liposome coating system to fully disperse it.
